Epoxy-Terminated Silicone Oil (Ep-PDMS)

CAS Number: 102782-97-8

Epoxy-terminated polydimethylsiloxane (Ep-PDMS) carries glycidoxypropyl epoxide groups at both chain ends. The epoxide ring reacts with amines, carboxyls, and hydroxyls under mild heat, enabling covalent bonding to fiber surfaces for wash-durable textile finishing, or integration into epoxy resin networks as a toughening modifier. EEW (350–3000 g/eq) and viscosity (50–5000 cSt) are the primary selection parameters.

Technical Specifications

appearanceColorless transparent liquid
density (g/mL, 25°C)0.99–1.01
viscosity (cSt, 25°C)50–5000 (multiple grades)
refractive index (25°C)1.390–1.410
epoxy equivalent weight (g/eq)350–3000

Applications

  • Wash-durable textile softener/finishing (covalent bond to fiber hydroxyl groups)
  • Epoxy resin toughening modifier — improves impact resistance and flexibility
  • Leather surface coating intermediate (reactive with polyurethane binders)
  • Reactive silicone surfactant synthesis via ring-opening with amines
  • Silicone-epoxy interpenetrating network (IPN) coupling agent

Key Features

  • Covalent fiber bonding gives wash durability superior to non-reactive silicone softeners
  • EEW range (350–3000 g/eq) enables tuning from reactive crosslinker to flexible toughener
  • Combines silicone softness and epoxide reactivity in a single molecule
  • Compatible with amine, anhydride, and polyol hardeners in epoxy systems
