Trimethylolpropane Triacrylate (TMPTA)

CAS Number: 15625-89-5

Trimethylolpropane Triacrylate (TMPTA) is a trifunctional acrylate crosslinker widely used in UV-curable hard coatings, inks, and adhesives. Its three reactive double bonds per molecule create high crosslink density upon UV or EB cure, yielding coatings with excellent hardness, chemical resistance, and abrasion resistance. TMPTA is commonly used as a crosslinker in combination with difunctional monomers and acrylate oligomers.

Technical Specifications

Purity≥90% (GC, tri-functional content)
Acid Value≤0.3 mg KOH/g
AppearanceColorless to light yellow liquid
Inhibitor (MEHQ)200–400 ppm
Viscosity (25 °C)80–120 mPa·s

Applications

  • UV hard coatings for plastic substrates (PC, PET, ABS)
  • UV-curable printing inks (offset, flexo, gravure)
  • Radiation curing of release coatings
  • UV adhesives requiring high cohesive strength
  • Electron beam cured film and foil coatings

Key Features

  • TMPTA trifunctionality creates high crosslink density for hard, chemically resistant coatings
  • Fast cure response gives sharp gel point — ideal for high-speed UV line production
  • Moderate viscosity enables easy incorporation into solvent-free formulations
  • Versatile crosslinker compatible with epoxy acrylate, urethane acrylate, and polyester acrylate oligomers
