Phosphoric Acid Metal Cleaner

CAS Number: 7664-38-2

Phosphoric acid metal cleaner removes rust, mill scale, and oxides from steel, iron, and copper substrates while simultaneously forming a thin iron phosphate conversion coating that passivates the cleaned surface. Unlike hydrochloric acid cleaners, the phosphoric acid treatment leaves a protective phosphate layer that inhibits flash rusting during subsequent processing. It is widely used as a combined rust removal and pre-treatment agent in metal fabrication, maintenance, and coating preparation.
