Antistatic Agent for Printing Inks (EG-Based)
CAS Number: 107-21-1
Ethylene glycol (EG) and polyethylene glycol-based antistatic additives used in printing inks and coatings to reduce surface resistivity and prevent electrostatic charge buildup during high-speed printing on plastic films, foils, and synthetic substrates. Antistatic agents migrate to the ink film surface to form a hygroscopic conductive layer, dissipating static charges that would otherwise cause ink misting, sheet misfeeds, and irregular ink transfer.
Technical Specifications
| appearance | Clear colorless to pale yellow liquid |
| compatibility | Waterborne and solvent-based inks |
| active content (%) | 30–100 (grade dependent) |
| viscosity (mPa·s) | 5–500 (25 °C) |
| surface resistivity (Ω/sq) | ≤10¹⁰ (at 0.5% loading) |
Applications
- Antistatic additive in flexo inks for plastic film printing
- Static control in gravure inks for film and foil
- Antistatic agent in UV inks for synthetic substrates
- Static dissipation in screen printing inks on films
- Anti-mist additive for high-speed offset printing
Key Features
- Effective static dissipation at low addition levels (0.1–1%)
- Compatible with both waterborne and solvent-based ink systems
- Reduces ink misting and sheet misfeeds on high-speed presses
- Migrates to surface to form durable conductive layer in dried films
