Panthenol is the alcohol form of pantothenic acid (Vitamin B5), which is readily absorbed by skin and hair where it converts to pantothenic acid. In skin care, it functions as a humectant, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing accelerator. In hair care, it penetrates the hair shaft to improve moisture retention, reduce breakage, and add gloss. It is one of the most universally used functional actives in personal care.
