Photoinitiator 184 (1-hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone) is the most widely used Type I alpha-cleavage photoinitiator for UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives. It exhibits strong absorption in the 300–360 nm range with excellent photobleaching characteristics and delivers low yellowing in cured films. Recommended dosage is 1–5 phr in clear and pigmented UV systems using mercury or iron-doped lamp technology.
