Sodium Gluconate Chelating Agent (Metal Cleaning)

CAS Number: 527-07-1

Sodium gluconate is a highly effective chelating agent for calcium, iron, copper, and other multivalent metal ions, particularly at pH above 10. It is widely used in alkaline metal cleaning, electroless plating baths, bottle washing, and concrete surface cleaning where EDTA is restricted. Biodegradable and non-toxic, it offers superior chelation efficiency over EDTA in the pH 12–14 range.

Technical Specifications

Assay≥98% (as sodium gluconate)
AppearanceWhite to off-white powder or granule
Heavy Metals≤10 ppm
pH (1% solution)6.5–7.5

Applications

  • Alkaline spray and immersion metal cleaning
  • Electroless nickel and copper plating bath stabilization
  • Glass bottle and container washing
  • Concrete surface cleaning and efflorescence removal
  • Industrial hard water scale inhibition

Key Features

  • Sodium Gluconate Chelating Agent outperforms EDTA at high alkalinity (pH 12–14) critical for caustic cleaning processes
  • Readily biodegradable (BOD5/COD >60%), reducing wastewater treatment burden
  • Prevents scale and precipitation of calcium/magnesium in high-temperature cleaning circuits
  • GRAS status and non-toxic profile allow use in food-contact equipment cleaning
