Sodium Thiocyanate Set Time Accelerator

CAS Number: 540-72-7

Sodium thiocyanate is a highly effective chloride-free accelerator for Portland cement concrete, accelerating hydration and improving early compressive strength, particularly in cold-weather conditions. It is commonly used as a component in multi-component non-chloride accelerator systems and can achieve comparable performance to calcium chloride without the associated corrosion risks. Typical dosage is 0.5–2% by cement weight.

Technical Specifications

pH5.5-7.0
appearanceWhite crystalline powder
purity (%)98±1
iron content (ppm)≤10
moisture content (%)≤0.5

Applications

  • Cold-weather concrete as non-chloride alternative to CaCl2
  • Multi-component admixture formulations for early strength
  • Reinforced concrete requiring chloride-free acceleration
  • Shotcrete in underground construction
  • Oil-well cementing slurries requiring controlled acceleration

Key Features

  • Non-chloride formula eliminates reinforcement corrosion risk
  • High effectiveness comparable to chloride-based accelerators
  • Excellent compatibility in multi-component admixture blends
  • Stable performance over a wide temperature range
