Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM) Self-Crosslinking Agent

CAS Number: 2873-97-4

Diacetone Acrylamide (DAAM) is a ketone-functional acrylamide monomer supplied at ≥99% purity that enables ambient-temperature self-crosslinking in acrylic emulsions when used in conjunction with adipic acid dihydrazide (ADH). The carbonyl groups in the DAAM-containing latex react with ADH hydrazide groups during film drying and coalescence, forming a hydrazone crosslink network without external heat input. Loading of 2–5% DAAM with stoichiometric ADH delivers excellent solvent resistance, water resistance, and blocking resistance.

Technical Specifications

Applications

  • Self-crosslinking acrylic latex for architectural coatings
  • Formaldehyde-free crosslinkable wood finish emulsions
  • Waterborne industrial maintenance coatings
  • Pressure-sensitive adhesive with improved cohesive strength
  • Leather and textile finishing emulsions

Key Features

  • Diacetone Acrylamide enables room-temperature crosslinking with ADH — no heat or UV cure required
  • Formaldehyde-free crosslinking mechanism meets VOC and indoor air quality regulations
  • 2–5% loading delivers a significant improvement in solvent, water, and blocking resistance
  • High purity ≥99% and consistent reactivity ensure reproducible crosslink density
