Hydroxyethyl Acrylate (HEA) Functional Monomer
CAS Number: 818-61-1
Hydroxyethyl Acrylate (HEA) is a hydroxyl-functional monomer supplied at ≥96% purity for use in crosslinkable acrylic emulsion systems. The pendant hydroxyl groups react with melamine-formaldehyde, isocyanate, or blocked isocyanate crosslinkers in thermosetting and ambient-cure coating formulations, delivering improved solvent resistance, wet adhesion, and mechanical properties. It is incorporated at 1–8% of monomer charge in industrial and OEM coatings latex.

Applications
- Crosslinkable acrylic emulsion for industrial coatings
- Automotive refinish waterborne basecoat
- Two-component waterborne polyurethane coatings
- Melamine-cured baking enamel latex
- Wet adhesion promoter in architectural latex
Key Features
- Hydroxyethyl Acrylate introduces reactive –OH groups enabling ambient or bake crosslinking with isocyanate and melamine systems
- Improves wet adhesion to metallic and plastic substrates in waterborne coatings
- Moderate homopolymer Tg (–15°C) avoids excessive softening at 1–8% loading
- Compatible with DAAM/ADH self-crosslinking systems for formaldehyde-free coatings
