Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) Reactive Monomer
CAS Number: 106-91-2
Glycidyl Methacrylate (GMA) is an epoxy-functional reactive monomer supplied at ≥97% purity that introduces latent epoxide groups into acrylic emulsion copolymers. The pendant epoxy functionality provides post-cure crosslinking with carboxylic acid, amine, or anhydride co-reactants upon heating or aging, and promotes strong adhesion to metals, glass, and polar substrates. Typically incorporated at 1–5% of monomer blend in industrial coatings, adhesion promoters, and tie-coat formulations.

Applications
- Adhesion-promoting acrylic latex for metal substrates
- Industrial maintenance coating emulsions
- Tie-coat and primer latex formulations
- Glass fiber sizing binder
- Reactive crosslinker in self-crosslinking emulsion systems
Key Features
- Glycidyl Methacrylate introduces latent epoxide groups enabling post-cure crosslinking without external crosslinker addition
- Excellent adhesion promotion to metals, glass, and polar substrates at 1–5% monomer loading
- Stable epoxide during emulsion polymerization at pH 4–7; reacts on film formation above 80°C
- Enhances chemical and solvent resistance in cured acrylic emulsion films
