FKM in Oil & Gas Sealing
Oil & gas applications demand seal materials that withstand simultaneous exposure to hydrocarbons, H₂S, CO₂, high temperatures (150–200°C downhole), and high pressures (up to 20,000 psi). FKM fluoroelastomers are the standard choice for most non-RGD (rapid gas decompression) sealing applications.
FKM Grade Selection by Service
| Application | Temperature | Media | Recommended FKM |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wellhead seals | <150°C | Crude + H₂S | FKM-246 (70% F) |
| Packer elements | <175°C | Completion fluid | FKM-246 or FFKM |
| BOP rams | <120°C | Drilling mud | FKM-26 (66% F) |
| Pipeline pig cups | <80°C | Crude oil | FKM-26 (66% F) |
| Valve stem seals | <200°C | Gas + condensate | FKM-246 (70% F) |
| Subsea connectors | <100°C | Seawater + hydrocarbon | FKM low-temp grade |
