Sodium Vinyl Sulfonate (SVS) Emulsion Stabilizer

Número CAS: 3039-83-6

Sodium Vinyl Sulfonate (SVS) is a sulfonate-functional ionic monomer supplied as a 25–30% aqueous solution that polymerizes directly into the latex particle shell, providing permanent anionic charge and colloidal stability without migration. Incorporation at 0.5–3% of monomer charge improves mechanical and freeze-thaw stability of the resulting latex, enhances adhesion to polar and metallic substrates, and is particularly valuable in formulations where conventional surfactant migration causes adhesion loss or foaming.

Aplicaciones

  • Acrylic and styrene-acrylic latex stabilization
  • Metal primer waterborne adhesive emulsions
  • Paper coating latex with improved wet-rub resistance
  • Freeze-thaw stable construction adhesive emulsions
  • Nonwoven binder with reduced surfactant migration

Características Principales

  • Sodium Vinyl Sulfonate is permanently copolymerized into the latex backbone, eliminating surfactant migration and associated adhesion loss
  • Strong anionic charge (sulfonate pKa <1) provides colloidal stability across a broad pH range
  • Improves freeze-thaw stability of latex by 3–5 cycles compared to surfactant-only stabilization
  • Compatible with persulfate, redox, and azo initiator systems at typical polymerization pH 2–8
