Scleroglucan EOR Biopolymer
CAS Number: 39464-87-4
Scleroglucan is a triple-helix natural polysaccharide biopolymer produced by fermentation of Sclerotium rolfsii, used as a mobility control agent in enhanced oil recovery polymer flooding. Unlike HPAM, scleroglucan is highly resistant to high-temperature (up to 120°C), high-salinity (up to 200 g/L TDS), and divalent cation (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺) conditions that degrade synthetic polymers. It is particularly valued for EOR in hot, high-salinity reservoirs where HPAM performance is insufficient.
Technical Specifications
| appearance | Off-white to cream free-flowing powder |
| purity (dry basis, %) | ≥85 |
| temperature stability (°C) | up to 120 |
| salinity tolerance (g/L TDS) | up to 200 |
| viscosity of 2000 ppm solution at 25°C (mPa·s) | ≥20 |
Applications
- High-temperature high-salinity reservoir polymer EOR
- Offshore deep reservoir EOR mobility control
- Replacement for HPAM in harsh reservoir conditions
- Conformance control in heterogeneous reservoirs
- Combined ASP flooding in hot carbonate reservoirs
Key Features
- Outstanding thermal stability up to 120°C — superior to HPAM
- Resistant to high salinity and divalent cations (Ca²⁺, Mg²⁺)
- Rigid triple-helix structure maintains viscosity under shear
- Biodegradable biopolymer acceptable for offshore EOR applications
