Calcium Chloride Cement Accelerator

CAS Number: 10043-52-4

Calcium chloride (CaCl₂) is an effective cement accelerator used in shallow, cold-temperature oil well cementing operations to shorten the thickening time and compressive strength development of Portland cement slurries. At dosages of 1–4% BWOC, it can reduce the time to 500 psi compressive strength by 30–60%. Anhydrous and flake grades are both used in oilfield cementing, with flake grade preferred for on-site mixing.

Technical Specifications

appearanceWhite crystalline powder or flakes
purity (%)≥94.0 (anhydrous), ≥74.0 (dihydrate)
compatible API classA, C, G, H
insoluble matter (%)≤0.2
moisture (%, anhydrous)≤1.0

Applications

  • Cold-climate and shallow well cement acceleration
  • Arctic and permafrost cementing operations
  • Rapid-set cement for wellbore integrity repair
  • Surface casing cementing in cold formations
  • Reducing WOC (wait-on-cement) time

Key Features

  • Reduces thickening time and accelerates early compressive strength
  • Essential for cold-temperature cementing below 30°C
  • Available as anhydrous powder or easy-to-handle flakes
  • Cost-effective and globally available cement additive
