Heavy Metal Precipitant
CAS Number: 1313-82-2
Heavy metal precipitants are chemical agents used in industrial wastewater treatment to selectively remove dissolved heavy metals such as copper, zinc, nickel, lead, cadmium, and chromium by precipitation as insoluble hydroxides, sulfides, or chelate complexes. They enable compliance with discharge limits for heavy metal ions. Products include sodium sulfide, trimercaptotriazine (TMT), and dithiocarbamate-based reagents.
Technical Specifications
| pH | 10.0–13.0 |
| appearance | Yellow liquid (TMT type) or white powder (sodium sulfide) |
| solubility | Fully water miscible |
| activeContent | 15% (TMT-15) or 60% (sodium sulfide) |
Applications
- Electroplating wastewater heavy metal removal
- Mining and smelting effluent treatment
- Printed circuit board wastewater treatment
- Battery manufacturing wastewater
- Leachate treatment at landfill sites
Key Features
- Achieves very low residual heavy metal levels (<0.1 mg/L)
- Effective across wide pH range without additional pH adjustment
- Selective precipitation minimizes reagent over-dosage
- Stable precipitate resistant to re-dissolution
