Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Cathode Material LiFePO4

CAS Number: 15365-14-7

Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is the safest, most cycle-stable commercial cathode, with a flat 3.2V plateau, no oxygen release, and thermal stability above 400°C. Carbon-coated LFP is the cathode of choice for energy storage, e-buses, grid applications, and low-cost EV platforms prioritizing cycle life (>3000 cycles) over energy density.

Technical Specifications

D50 (μm)0.8–1.5
appearanceBlack powder (carbon coated)
moisture (ppm)≤500
carbon content (%)1.5–2.5
tap density (g/cm³)≥1.0
capacity (mAh/g, 2.5–3.65V)≥155

Applications

  • Grid-scale energy storage system (ESS) cathode
  • E-bus and commercial EV battery cathode
  • Low-cost standard-range EV (BEV) cathode
  • UPS and backup power battery cathode
  • E-bike and light EV battery cathode

Key Features

  • Excellent thermal stability (exothermic decomposition >400°C) for highest battery safety
  • Long cycle life >3000 cycles at 80% DOD, ideal for ESS and fleet electrification
  • No cobalt or nickel content reduces raw material supply chain risk and cost
  • Compatible with aqueous and NMP-based binder systems for flexible manufacturing
