Sodium Carbonate (Soda Ash)
CAS Number: 497-19-8
Sodium Carbonate (soda ash) is a mild alkaline pH adjuster and activator used in flotation circuits to raise pulp pH to the range of 8-11, particularly suited for circuits where lime would cause excessive calcium ion concentrations that interfere with collector performance. It is widely used in non-ferrous metal sulfide flotation, glass sand purification, and as a conditioning agent for fatty acid collectors in oxide and carbonate mineral flotation.
Technical Specifications
| appearance | White powder or granules |
| chloride (%) | ≤0.005 |
| pH (1% solution) | 11.2-11.6 |

Applications
- Mild pH adjustment in sulfide and oxide flotation circuits
- Conditioning agent for fatty acid collector activation
- Glass sand (silica sand) purification flotation
- Potash ore and sylvinite flotation conditioning
- Softening of hard process water in flotation
Key Features
- Gentler pH increase than lime, avoiding excess calcium ion interference
- Activates fatty acid collectors for oxide mineral flotation
- Widely available and cost-effective bulk reagent
- Dual function as pH adjuster and water softening agent
