Olefin Copolymer (OCP) Viscosity Index Improver

CAS Number: 9010-77-9

Olefin copolymer (OCP) VI improvers, based on ethylene-propylene copolymers, are the most widely used viscosity modifiers in engine oils and gear oils due to their excellent shear stability and cost-effectiveness. They improve the viscosity-temperature relationship to enable multi-grade formulations and demonstrate outstanding mechanical shear stability in service, making them ideal for heavy-duty diesel engine oils that must retain their viscosity grade through long drain intervals.

Applications

  • Heavy-duty diesel engine oils (15W-40, 10W-40, 10W-30) requiring shear-stable VI improvement
  • Passenger car engine oils (5W-30, 5W-40, 10W-40) as cost-effective viscosity modifier
  • Gear oils and axle lubricants (75W-90, 80W-90, 80W-140)
  • Industrial transmission oils and multi-purpose tractor fluids (UTTO)
  • Construction and off-highway equipment engine oils

Key Features

  • Cost-effective high-molecular-weight VI improvement enables economical multi-grade formulations
  • Excellent inherent shear stability for sustained viscosity-grade retention over engine life
  • Available in solid pellet or oil-dissolved forms to suit different blending operations
  • No pour point depressant capability, but readily combined with PMA PPD for full multi-grade performance
