Zinc Dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP)
CAS Number: 68457-79-4
Zinc dialkyldithiophosphate (ZDDP) is the cornerstone multifunctional additive in engine oil formulations, delivering simultaneous antiwear, extreme-pressure, and antioxidant performance. It forms a protective tribofilm on metal surfaces under boundary lubrication conditions, dramatically extending component life. Widely specified in API SN/SP, ACEA A3/B4, and OEM-approved passenger car and heavy-duty engine oil packages.
Technical Specifications
| appearance | Amber to dark amber liquid |
| zinc content | 8.5–9.5 wt% |
| sulfur content | 14.0–16.0 wt% |
| flash point (COC) | >140 °C |
| phosphorus content | 7.2–8.0 wt% |
| kinematic viscosity (100°C) | 15–25 mm²/s |
Applications
- Passenger car motor oils (PCMO) meeting API SN/SP specifications
- Heavy-duty diesel engine oils (HDEO) for CK-4/FA-4 formulations
- Gear oils and automatic transmission fluids requiring antiwear protection
- Industrial hydraulic fluids needing antioxidant and antiwear performance
- Motorcycle engine oils and racing lubricants
Key Features
- Triple-function performance: antiwear, extreme pressure, and antioxidation in one molecule
- Proven tribofilm formation on ferrous and non-ferrous surfaces under high-load conditions
- Excellent thermal and hydrolytic stability for extended drain interval formulations
- Compatible with most base oils and co-additives used in modern engine oil packages
