Vinylene Carbonate (VC) Film-Forming Additive
CAS Number: 872-36-6
Vinylene carbonate (VC) is the most widely used film-forming electrolyte additive for lithium-ion batteries, polymerizing preferentially on graphite and silicon anodes to build a compact, stable SEI that greatly reduces gas generation and improves cycle performance. Typical addition level is 0.5–3 wt% in the finished electrolyte.
Technical Specifications

Applications
- Graphite anode SEI film-forming additive (0.5–3 wt%)
- Silicon anode gas suppression additive
- High-temperature battery storage improvement
- NMC cathode electrolyte stabilizer
- Lithium metal battery interface modifier
Key Features
- Polymerizes preferentially below 0.7V vs Li/Li+ forming stable, thin poly-VC SEI
- Significantly suppresses CO2 and C2H4 gas generation during formation cycling
- Improves high-temperature cycle retention and calendar life of Li-ion cells
- Synergistic with FEC for optimized silicon anode electrolyte formulations
