Colloidal Graphite Solid Lubricant Additive

CAS Number: 7782-42-5

Colloidal graphite is a suspension of ultrafine graphite platelets (typically 1–10 μm) in oil or water carriers, used as a solid lubricant additive in greases, cutting fluids, and extreme-pressure lubricants. The layered hexagonal structure of graphite provides excellent lubrication under high load and high temperature conditions where conventional lubricants fail. Graphite is particularly effective in open gear, wire rope, and high-temperature furnace applications where environmental contamination of PTFE and MoS2 can occur.

Applications

  • Open gear lubricants for mining, cement, and sugar mill equipment
  • Wire rope lubricants for crane, elevator, and mining applications
  • High-temperature furnace and kiln bearing greases
  • Anti-seize compounds and bolt assembly lubricants
  • Brake pad and clutch lubricant release agents

Key Features

  • Excellent lubrication under high load, low speed, and high temperature where oils fail
  • Layered crystal structure provides low shear-strength lubrication without melting or decomposing
  • Good atmospheric moisture sensitivity: actually improves lubrication performance at higher humidity
  • Non-toxic and environmentally acceptable solid lubricant suitable for open environment applications
