PTFE Powder Additive for Greases and Lubricants

CAS Number: 9002-84-0

Micronized polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) powder is used as a solid lubricant additive in greases and dry lubricants, reducing the coefficient of friction and improving wear resistance under light- to medium-load boundary lubrication conditions. PTFE particles deposit on metal surfaces to form a low-energy, low-friction transfer film. They are particularly effective in precision bearings, instrument mechanisms, and thread compounds where conventional lubricants would cause interference or contamination.

Applications

  • Precision instrument and miniature bearing greases
  • Anti-seize and thread compounds for bolt and fastener assembly
  • Slide-way and linear bearing greases requiring low stick-slip friction
  • Dry film lubricant coatings for metal and plastic components
  • Food-grade grease formulations for incidental food contact applications

Key Features

  • Extremely low coefficient of friction (0.03–0.05) provides superior boundary lubrication
  • Chemical inertness and non-reactivity with virtually all lubricant chemistries and substrates
  • High thermal stability up to 260°C continuous for demanding high-temperature applications
  • FDA-compliant grades available for food-grade and pharmaceutical lubricant applications
