Squalene (Cosmetic Grade)

CAS Number: 111-02-4

Squalene is a natural polyunsaturated triterpene hydrocarbon that is a major component of human sebum and an intermediate in cholesterol biosynthesis, used in cosmetics as an ultra-lightweight emollient that replenishes skin surface lipids, restores sebum balance, and provides antioxidant protection. Plant-derived (olive) squalene is preferred in cosmetics due to sustainability concerns over shark-derived sources. Used at 1–10% in facial oils, serums, and moisturizers.
