Cholesterol (Cosmetic Grade)

CAS Number: 57-88-5

Cholesterol is an essential sterol lipid that constitutes approximately one-third of the stratum corneum lipids alongside ceramides and fatty acids, forming the multi-lamellar lipid envelope that controls skin permeability. Topical application of cholesterol restores deficient barrier lipid ratios in aged, dry, and compromised skin, significantly reducing transepidermal water loss. Used at 0.1–1% as part of complete barrier lipid systems.
