Trehalose (Cosmetic Grade)
CAS Number: 99-20-7
Trehalose is a non-reducing disaccharide naturally produced by organisms that survive extreme desiccation (tardigrades, resurrection plants), functioning as a biological water substitute that stabilizes proteins and membranes in the absence of water. In cosmetics, it provides superior moisturization, protects skin cells from dehydration and heat stress, and stabilizes other cosmetic actives in formulation. Used at 0.5–5% in moisturizing, protective, and active-stabilizing formulations.
