Curcumin is the principal bioactive polyphenol extracted from Curcuma longa (turmeric) rhizomes, possessing potent anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial, and skin brightening properties via NF-kB pathway inhibition and tyrosinase suppression. In topical cosmetics, it reduces skin inflammation, helps improve hyperpigmentation, and provides antioxidant photoprotection. Used at 0.1–1% in brightening, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant formulations.
