DEG Monooleate Corrosion Inhibitor for Metalworking

CAS Number: 141-20-8

Diethylene glycol monooleate (DEG monooleate) is a non-ionic ester surfactant used as a mild corrosion inhibitor, emulsifier, and lubricity additive in water-based metalworking fluids. Its dual hydrophilic-lipophilic structure adsorbs onto metal surfaces while maintaining miscibility with water, providing effective ferrous corrosion protection in diluted cutting fluids. DEG monooleate also acts as a coupling agent to improve compatibility between the oil and water phases in semi-synthetic fluids.

Applications

  • Water-based metalworking fluid corrosion inhibitor for ferrous metals
  • Semi-synthetic cutting fluid coupling agent and emulsification aid
  • Textile and fiber processing lubricant for fiber-to-metal lubricity
  • Hydraulic fluid component in water-glycol hydraulic fluids
  • Corrosion inhibitor in industrial cleaning and surface treatment fluids

Key Features

  • Non-ionic chemistry avoids sensitivity to water hardness and ionic strength in metalworking applications
  • Combined corrosion inhibition and emulsification simplifies semi-synthetic cutting fluid formulation
  • Good skin compatibility and low toxicity profile for worker safety in machining environments
  • Compatible with anionic, cationic, and non-ionic surfactants in complex fluid compositions
