Tolyltriazole (TTA) Metal Deactivator for Lubricants
CAS Number: 29385-43-1
Tolyltriazole (TTA) is a heterocyclic metal deactivator and corrosion inhibitor widely used in lubricants, coolants, and fuels to protect copper, brass, bronze, and other non-ferrous metals. TTA forms a stable protective coordination complex on copper surfaces, blocking oxidative attack and preventing catalytic pro-oxidation by dissolved copper ions. It is an essential component in engine oils, hydraulic fluids, automatic transmission fluids, and water-based metalworking fluids containing mixed metal components.

Applications
- Engine and gear oil copper and non-ferrous metal protection
- Automatic transmission and hydraulic fluid metal deactivation
- Antifreeze/coolant copper and brass radiator component protection
- Water-based metalworking fluids for mixed-metal machining applications
- Fuel additive to prevent copper corrosion in fuel system components
Key Features
- Highly effective copper and non-ferrous metal deactivation at very low treat rates (50–500 ppm)
- Dual solubility in both oil and water allows use in oil-based, water-based, and mixed-fluid systems
- Excellent thermal stability up to 200°C ensuring persistent metal deactivation through drain intervals
- Synergistic with DMTD for combined copper passivation and radical-scavenging antioxidant protection
