Sodium Nitrite Corrosion Inhibitor
CAS Number: 7632-00-0
Sodium nitrite (NaNO2) is an anodic passivator used as a corrosion inhibitor in closed-loop cooling and heating water systems, as well as in diesel engine coolants and cutting fluid formulations. It passivates the iron surface by promoting the formation of a stable iron oxide/nitrite protective layer. Typically used in combination with borax or silicate for enhanced protection.
