Triphenyl Phosphate (TPP) EP Additive

CAS Number: 115-86-6

Triphenyl phosphate (TPP) is an aryl phosphate ester that functions as an antiwear and mild extreme-pressure additive in lubricants and hydraulic fluids. It forms a thin iron phosphate layer on metal surfaces at elevated temperatures, protecting against abrasive wear. TPP also provides excellent fire-resistant properties and is used in turbine oils, compressor lubricants, and phosphate ester-based hydraulic fluids where both lubricity and fire resistance are needed.

Applications

  • Fire-resistant hydraulic fluids for steel mills and die-casting operations
  • Turbine and compressor oils requiring antiwear and oxidation protection
  • Electrical insulating oils and transformer lubricants
  • Plasticizer and flame retardant in lubricating greases
  • Component in anti-wear hydraulic oil packages

Key Features

  • Effective antiwear protection via in-situ iron phosphate film formation on metal surfaces
  • Excellent fire resistance and high flash point for use in hazardous industrial environments
  • Low volatility and good thermal stability up to 200°C in continuous service
  • Multifunctional: antiwear, flame retardant, and plasticizer properties in one molecule
