Dibenzyl Disulfide (DBDS) Extreme Pressure Additive

CAS Number: 150-60-7

Dibenzyl disulfide (DBDS) is a highly effective thermally active sulfur-based extreme pressure additive used in gear and metalworking lubricants. The benzylic C–S bond cleaves readily under tribological stress, releasing reactive sulfur that reacts with iron to form a low-shear-strength iron sulfide film, preventing seizure under high contact pressures. DBDS delivers excellent 4-ball EP performance and is commonly blended with phosphorus-based antiwear additives in GL-5 gear oil packages.
