Microencapsulated Red Phosphorus Flame Retardant
CAS Number: 7723-14-0
Featured inFlame Retardants
Microencapsulated red phosphorus is a highly efficient halogen-free phosphorus flame retardant with an extremely high active phosphorus content (85–92%), allowing very low loading levels to achieve UL94 V-0 ratings in polyamides and epoxy systems. The proprietary microencapsulation (typically melamine-formaldehyde or phenolic resin shell) resolves the handling, moisture sensitivity, and oxidation issues of uncoated red phosphorus, enabling safe processing in polymer compounding lines. It produces very low smoke and minimal toxic gas emission during combustion.

Applications
- Polyamide PA6 and PA66 glass-filled compounds (UL94 V-0 at 8–12%)
- Epoxy resin circuit board laminates and encapsulants (PCB FR-4 replacement)
- Thermoplastic elastomers and rubber compounds
- Adhesives and potting compounds for electronics
- Polyurethane rigid foam with high phosphorus efficiency
Key Features
- Exceptionally high phosphorus content (85–92%) enables lowest possible loading for UL94 V-0 compliance
- Microencapsulation eliminates spontaneous ignition risk and moisture sensitivity for safe factory handling
- Low loading (8–12%) minimizes impact on mechanical properties, melt flow, and color of PA compounds
- Versatile compatibility with polyamides, epoxies, TPE, and rubber without corrosive halogen side products
