Paraquat Dichloride Non-Selective Herbicide

CAS Number: 1910-42-5

Paraquat dichloride is a fast-acting, non-selective contact herbicide that accepts electrons from photosystem I, generating reactive oxygen species (ROS) that rapidly destroy plant cell membranes on contact. Unlike glyphosate, paraquat is rapidly inactivated upon soil contact, enabling immediate re-planting in no-till systems. Paraquat remains an important tool in desiccation of grain crops before harvest, potato haulm destruction, and in markets where resistance to glyphosate and other systemic herbicides is a major agronomic challenge.

Applications

  • Pre-plant burndown and non-selective vegetation destruction
  • Grain crop (wheat, rice, sunflower) desiccation before harvest
  • Potato haulm destruction for uniform tuber maturity
  • Orchard and vineyard floor weed management (strip application)
  • Glyphosate-resistant weed management programs

Key Features

  • Fastest-acting non-selective herbicide — visible effects within hours
  • Rapid soil inactivation allows same-day planting in no-till systems
  • No cross-resistance with glyphosate or other herbicide mode-of-action groups
  • Key harvest aid for grain crop desiccation and uniform maturity
