Alkylnaphthalene Sulfonate Soil Penetrant Surfactant

CAS Number: 36290-04-7

Alkylnaphthalene sulfonate (ANS) is an anionic surfactant used as a soil penetrant, wetting agent, and dispersant in soil-applied herbicide and fumigant formulations. It reduces water surface tension and soil hydrophobicity, allowing aqueous pesticide solutions to penetrate compacted or water-repellent soils more effectively. ANS is particularly effective in pre-emergent herbicide formulations and post-plant soil fumigation programs where uniform soil penetration is critical for efficacy.
