Ethephon Ethylene-Releasing Plant Growth Regulator
CAS Number: 16672-87-0
Ethephon (2-chloroethylphosphonic acid) is an ethylene-releasing compound used as a plant growth regulator to accelerate fruit ripening, promote flowering and fruit drop in a range of crops. It penetrates plant tissues and releases ethylene at physiological pH, triggering natural ethylene-mediated plant responses. Ethephon is used in tomato ripening synchronization, cotton defoliation, rubber tree latex yield enhancement, and pineapple flower induction.
