Glutaraldehyde is a high-level aldehyde disinfectant and chemical sterilant used for cold sterilization of heat-sensitive medical and dental instruments, endoscopes, and surgical equipment. At 2% alkaline or acidic formulations, it achieves broad-spectrum sporicidal, bactericidal, virucidal, and fungicidal activity. It is also used in oil and gas water treatment as a microbicide.
