Carbohydrazide Oxygen Scavenger

CAS Number: 497-18-7

Carbohydrazide (CHZ) is an organic oxygen scavenger and metal passivator used as a safer alternative to hydrazine in high-pressure boiler and steam generation systems. It decomposes at elevated temperatures to yield nitrogen and water, with no harmful residuals, while also passivating iron and copper surfaces to form protective magnetite/cuprous oxide films.

Applications

  • High-pressure boiler feedwater oxygen scavenging
  • Steam turbine condensate system protection
  • Combined cycle power plant steam circuit treatment
  • Nuclear power plant secondary circuit oxygen control
  • Industrial boiler systems replacing hydrazine

Key Features

  • Non-carcinogenic hydrazine replacement — accepted in food-grade steam applications
  • Decomposes cleanly to N2 and H2O — no toxic by-products
  • Dual role: oxygen scavenger and metal surface passivator
  • Compatible with all-volatile treatment (AVT) programs in power generation
