Hydrazine Oxygen Scavenger for High-Pressure Boilers

CAS Number: 302-01-2

Hydrazine (N2H4) is a volatile oxygen scavenger and metal passivator used in high-pressure steam boilers and power plant steam-water circuits. It reacts stoichiometrically with dissolved oxygen to produce nitrogen and water with no solid residuals, and simultaneously passivates iron and copper oxide surfaces to form a dense protective magnetite layer. Supplied as 35% or 64% aqueous solution.

Applications

  • High-pressure utility and industrial steam boiler oxygen scavenging
  • Combined cycle power plant steam circuit treatment
  • Nuclear power plant secondary steam circuit protection
  • Steam turbine condensate dissolved oxygen control
  • Passivation of pre-boiler and boiler components during start-up

Key Features

  • Zero dissolved solids — decomposes entirely to N2 and H2O
  • Effective at very low oxygen concentrations (<10 ppb) in high-purity boiler systems
  • Dual passivation of iron and copper surfaces reducing long-term corrosion
  • Volatile — distributes throughout steam and condensate circuits for complete protection
