Tetraacetylethylenediamine (TAED) is a bleach activator used in combination with sodium percarbonate or perborate to generate peracetic acid in wash water, enabling effective bleaching and disinfection at low temperatures (30–40°C). It dramatically improves the bleaching performance of oxygen-based bleach systems in cold-water laundry programs and automatic dishwashing, reducing energy consumption.
